Why This Volunteer is Extraordinary:
I am thrilled to nominate Louise for the 2024 Spirit of Volunteerism awards. Louise has been not only our longest standing volunteer, but one of our most integral parts of our volunteer team at Casa Youth Shelter. Her dedication and impact on our community is unmatched and cannot be overstated. Louise’s commitment to our cause shines through in her (never-missed) weekly visits to the shelter. Every Thursday, like clockwork, she arrives with a smile on her face and a passion for teaching. Her specialty lies in teaching the lost art of sewing basics to the youth-in-crisis at our shelter, guiding them through the process of creating stuffed animals that they get to take home with them. It’s not just about sewing for Louise; it’s about instilling a sense of pride and accomplishment in these young individuals. Through her patient guidance, she teaches them not only a valuable life skill but also the art of self-expression. In a world where so much is uncertain for our youth-in-crisis, Louise provides them with a creative outlet and a sense of achievement. Louise’s impact extends far beyond the sewing room.
