Published: March 27, 2024

Honoree’s Name: Jennifer Arnoldt

Why This Volunteer is Extraordinary:

As a volunteer at Big Brothers Big Sisters of Orange County, Jennifer Arnoldt has shown her mentee, Jazelle, the value of education, relationships with others, and, most importantly, loving and believing in herself. Jennifer’s commitment to creating a safe, inclusive environment for Jazelle to grow her self-confidence is commendable, as it has allowed Jazelle to thrive despite the personal challenges she faced in the past six years. Jazelle’s journey is truly inspiring, highlighting the transformative power of mentorship and the profound impact one person can have on a young person’s life.

Jennifer and Jazelle’s bond fostered personal growth and paved the way for Jazelle’s educational success. Jennifer stepped up to break down barriers, open doors, and instill confidence in Jazelle. Now, in her first year of high school, Jazelle was not only accepted into an early college program but also excelling at the top of her class, showcasing the resilience and determination she instilled by Jennifer’s unwavering support.

Their story serves as a beacon of hope and a reminder of the importance of defending potential, as Jennifer advocates through Big Brothers Big Sisters. Jennifer’s friendship with Jazelle has sparked inspiration, encouraging others in her community to step forward and make a difference as mentors. In recognition of this advocacy, Jennifer and Jazelle were named the 2024 California Big and Little of the Year.

Their story reminds us that with the proper guidance and support, every young person has the potential to overcome obstacles and achieve greatness. It’s a testament to the power of mentorship in shaping futures and creating a brighter tomorrow for us all.
