Honoree’s Name: Marie FitzGerald (Fitz)
Why This Volunteer is Extraordinary:
Fitz joined Team PMMC in September of 2020. On her application, she indicated that she would be willing to do any job at PMMC. That in itself is not something we see too often. That is when she began working in the Treasure Trove. Not too long after, Fitz mentioned she enjoyed working in the Treasure Trove, because she gets to see the impact her volunteer role makes. Fitz instantly started diving into finding facts that tied contributions to our rehabilitation process. She makes herself available for just about every inventory. She plays such a significant role, we asked her to train our new volunteers. Outside of the Treasure Trove, Fitz participates in outreach events in the community and special events with PMMC. During our renovation, Fitz added Visit Laguna Beach, Fish House Crew, and Necropsy to her routine. When she is not working a shift, she is often covering for a fellow teammate. She continues to train new volunteers; now in new roles! Not to mention, she is at every Pinnipeds & Pints! Fitz recently mentioned to me that PMMC is her home. In the rare moments that she is not at PMMC, she is spending time with her family, logging miles on her bike, motorcycle, or jeep, or cracking jokes (I mean camping) with friends.

Fitz,
Thank you so much for the time and passion you put into volunteering at PMMC! Your love of our mission shines through in every outreach you participate in and with every guest with whom you speak. I also cannot thank you enough for creating our rollout ‘flat orca’ that we have used to teach kids about drone research and photogrammetry. Your artwork is stunning! We are just so grateful to you for your efforts and volunteering your time at PMMC!
Congratulations Fitz!!!
Congratulations, Fitz!! Thank you for all you do to share our flippered friends with others, and helping to bring in funds that directly and positively impact our ability to provide our patients care and get them back to the big blue!! Keep up the great work!
Well deserved honor for you Fitz! Besides knowing that you step in and help on so many volunteer fronts at PMMC, your skill sets are beyond amazing. I will never forget doing a necropsy with you and the team. You were the lynch pin that kept the process running smoothly and efficiently! What CAN’T you do?
FITZ!!! So well deserved with everything you do at PMMC! Thank you for your dedication and the fun you bring along with it! 🙂
Some of my favorite memories at PMMC are times I’ve gotten to dig up whale bones and go to whale necropsies with Fitz!!! Such a giving volunteer that I feel so lucky to know.
