Why This Volunteer is Extraordinary:
April Hufford has been an integral part of the Human Options family for over a decade. She has made it her mission to ensure that our Second Step Transitional program (which provides transitional housing to survivors of relationship violence and their children) is a warm and inviting place for every survivor who enters. Over the years, this has included deep cleaning units between residents, securing donations, and giving substantially of her resources to fill each unit with furniture, appliances, and décor. April has inserted her style into these staging efforts so that each unit has its personality and is ready to welcome new residents upon arrival. April has also worked with her church to renovate staff offices and common spaces to ensure that staff and clients have a warm and calming place to get work done. Finally, she has also undertaken multiple beautification projects at the site, including creating an edible garden and establishing a beautiful outdoor patio space for clients to relax in the sunshine. |
