A partnership that has brought 2 million meals to people in need in Orange County over the past decade was named this year’s Giving is Living Award winner, Thursday, April 26, culminating a day of honoring such contributions at the 2018 Spirit of Volunteerism Awards luncheon at the Disneyland Hotel.

The Giving is Living award pays tribute to collaborations between nonprofits and corporations. Newport Beach-based Pacific Management Investment Co. (Pimco) and the Community Action Partnership of Orange County’s OC Food Bank, were singled out from among 25 nominees for their successful teamwork.

Each holiday season, Pimco employees pack boxes of food for the hungry at Share the Harvest events. Last December, 800 volunteers filled 12,000 boxes for the OC Food Bank and its member groups.

In accepting the award, Sarah Middleton, executive director of the Pimco Foundation, addressed Orange County’s high level of food insecurity. When you consider the large number of hungry people in the county, she said, “You can’t help but say, ‘Let’s do something about it.’”

In all, 386 individuals, groups and corporate teams were celebrated Thursday for their work in areas including hunger, homelessness, education, workforce development, health care, the environment, law enforcement, veterans, the arts, animals, and youth services.
