Henry Nielson & Mila Rubin - Empower Education
Henry Nielson founded Empower Education two years ago with the mission to improve educational opportunities for underprivileged children. Recently granted 501(c)(3) nonprofit status, the organization has grown rapidly under his leadership. Alongside co-president Mila Rubin, Henry leads a diverse group of over 50 middle and high school students from around the world who meet weekly to contribute to meaningful projects.
In just two years, Empower Education has raised over $28,000, funding the construction of two classrooms in Uganda’s Kaliro District, benefiting over 850 students in a rural village. More recently, the group raised $5,000 to support a meal-packing event where 37 students packed over 5,000 meals to send to Uganda, ensuring children there have the nutrition they need to succeed.
The group’s broader mission is to provide access to quality education, reduce school dropout rates, and empower youth in communities like Kaliro, Oaxaca (Mexico), and Korea. They aim to promote literacy, improve teacher and student performance, and support gender equality and community service. Their ultimate goal is to equip these children with the skills they need to pursue higher education and improve their futures.
Henry and Mila, both high school seniors, have become inspiring leaders who have sparked a global movement, uniting students from various backgrounds to take action for a cause that deeply impacts them. Their work continues to create lasting change, one educational initiative at a time.
