Joohong Lange-Big Brothers Big Sisters of Orange County and the Inland Empire

At Big Brothers Big Sisters of Orange County, Joohong Lange is showing how one person’s support can empower a child to thrive. When 10-year-old Jacob was matched with Joohong, he was already showing incredible strength and resilience. Jacob had stepped up to support his younger sister and help his parents navigate the significant behavioral needs of his older brother. Despite these challenges, Jacob remained thoughtful, caring, and determined—but he needed someone who could help him unlock his full potential and encourage him to dream bigger.

That’s where Joohong came in. For nearly two years, Joohong has been a steady and encouraging presence in Jacob’s life, creating a space where Jacob can be himself and explore new possibilities. Jacob’s natural leadership, creativity, and curiosity have flourished with Joohong’s support. Their time together—whether it’s through fun outings or meaningful conversations—has strengthened Jacob’s confidence and inspired him to take on new challenges with excitement and optimism.

Jacob’s growth has been remarkable. He’s excelling in school, building strong friendships, and stepping into new opportunities with courage and self-assurance. His natural kindness and positive outlook have made him a leader among his peers, and he’s learned how to face obstacles with resilience and grace. Jacob has always had the strength within him—Joohong has simply helped him see it more clearly.

But Joohong’s impact doesn’t stop with Jacob. He’s become a passionate advocate for Big Brothers Big Sisters, encouraging his Disneyland Resort coworkers to get involved as mentors and helping to strengthen the program from within. As an active member of the “Big Collective,” a peer-led committee that supports other Bigs, Joohong helps organize events and provide guidance to fellow volunteers. His leadership and enthusiasm are inspiring others to step up and make a difference in the lives of local youth.

Jacob and Joohong’s story is a powerful reminder that mentoring isn’t just about creating memories—it’s about helping kids realize their strengths and empowering them to build a bright future. Through the support and guidance of a trusted mentor, kids like Jacob are proving that they have what it takes to succeed.
