Why This Volunteer is Extraordinary: About Dr. Patricia Adelekan, Founder, Youth-on-the-Move, Inc. and the International Educators’ Hall of Fame Dr. Pat Adelekan (as she is fondly called) is an active resident of Orange County and is an international multi-talented educator, business woman, writer, speaker, university professor and an unselfish and caring volunteer. She was a protégé of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and a youth leader and planner for the famous March on Washington (Aug. 28, 1963). She is the founder of the annual “Operation Beloved Telephone Call”– a volunteer effort in January each year that encourages students and adults in Orange County and around the world to make “beloved” telephone calls to people asking them how they are doing and that they wish them well – all in the remembrance of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and his desire to build “Beloved Communities.” Dr. Pat has volunteered in the community and around the world – Fiji, China, Taiwan, French, Germany, Nigeria, Benin to mention a few. Today, Dr. Pat continues to be active in church, her community and is the founder of Youth-on-the-Move, Inc. – a 37 year 501(c)(3) nonprofit intergenerational education organization; the International Educators’ Hall of Fame (in its 32th year); and five Toastmasters’ Clubs, among other. These organizations are based in Orange County, USA, where Dr. Pat has volunteered thousands of hours serving, encouraging and helping others. Dr. Adelekan appears in several Who’s Who’s Volumes and has been awarded numerous times as “Woman of the Year” by Congressman Louis Correa, and other various local, national and international groups. Including the Presidential Medal of Freedom Award for her widespread and diverse cultural and community impact. She brings her vast array of God-led experiences and humor to many wherever she goes. She has received the Spirit of Volunteerism Award yearly for the past 20 years. “Indeed, Dr. Pat is a caring spiritual and visionary leader”, says Ida Dunson, a 97 year old retired educator and Hall of Famer ‘1993.
