Award Category: Work

Why This Volunteer is Extraordinary:

Jill is among YES’s most committed and extraordinary volunteers. She has been vital in shaping YES’s Program and helping the organization’s growth through her years of service as a YES Board Director, and as Board President from 2018-2020. In addition to serving on the Board, Jill has spent countless hours serving on YES’s Executive, Program, Marketing, and Fund Development Committees. We are deeply grateful to Jill for her dedication, passion, and vision for YES’s mission. Outside of YES, Jill is the founder of the Leadership Resource Group, where she guides her clients toward a collaborative management approach while ensuring their goals are achieved. As Jill has previously stated, “YES is building the future leaders of the workplace, and that mission is completely aligned with my work and life’s purpose.” Jill joined YES in search of an opportunity to give back to her community while also utilizing her extensive skills to further support YES through her efforts in curriculum building, coaching, and interviewing. Jill’s heart for service is the embodiment of the Spirit of Volunteerism. We are so thankful for her deep commitment to serving our youth, and it is with great pleasure that we present her as a nominee for the 2021 OneOC Spirit of Volunteerism Award.

Honoree’s Name: Taylor Truong

Award Category: Work

Why This Volunteer is Extraordinary:

Since connecting with Youth Employment Service in 2017, Taylor has become one of YES’s most engaged volunteers. Her heart and passion for helping our youth is evident through the compassionate and thoughtful way she teaches and mentors YES candidates. Interviewing can be an intimidating and challenging experience for a young adult. Taylor has an exceptional ability to spend an hour with a nervous YES candidate and transform them into a confident and articulate interviewee. Taylor connects with young adults through her warm smile, gentle demeanor, and engaging personality. In addition to conducting Mock Interviews, Taylor works with YES candidates by helping them build and further develop their resumes. She is also a mentor for youth looking to enter the healthcare industry. She is remarkable in helping our YES candidates understand that the skills and experiences they possess are valuable. Taylor always leaves YES candidates feeling empowered and more confident in their ability to lead a life they love and can be proud of. We are so thankful for the numerous hours she has dedicated to volunteering with YES in various capacities, and we are proud to present her as a nominee for the 2021 OneOC Spirit of Volunteerism Award.

Honoree’s Name: Janice Carsten

Award Category: Work

Why This Volunteer is Extraordinary:

Janice Carsten has been volunteering with Youth Employment Service since 2016. She is one of our most active and engaging Mock Interview volunteers. We always look forward to seeing Janice, whether that be on-site or virtually via Zoom. In light of COVID-19, YES shifted from operating entirely onsite to entirely virtual until further notice. Janice was among the first of our volunteers who made that shift to help YES adapt and continue to serve our candidates through our virtual programs and opportunities. We appreciate Janice’s commitment to YES and the youth and young adults that we serve. She aims to be available and accessible if we are ever short on volunteers. She strengthens our program through each Mock Interview session she provides. She has an extraordinary approach when working with our youth and young adults. We appreciate the time she takes for each YES candidate to help them fully develop their stories, identify their skills, and teach them how to effectively communicate these points. In addition to conducting Mock Interviews, Janice also serves on YES’s Fund Development Committee to plan our annual gala, which is our largest fundraiser each year. Janice’s passion and dedication truly exemplify the Spirit of Volunteerism. We are proud to present her as a nominee for the 2021 OneOC Spirit of Volunteerism Award
