Honoree’s Name: Peter Callahan
Why This Volunteer is Extraordinary: Peter Callahan held the position of managing partner of Callahan, Thompson, Sherman, and Caudill. I first met him at a Saint Patrick’s day event presentation in 2013. He requested to learn more about the work of Wells Of Life. Without hesitation, he committed to FUNDING a family well with the understanding that he would go to Uganda and make sure everything was working as promised. Peter Callahan took his family to Uganda in 2013, and since then has served as the Wells Of Life Board of Directors as our volunteer president. In addition to his incredible generosity, he has assisted almost every position when needed to support the growth and development of Wells Of Life over the past decade. This includes traveling to Uganda, returning with incredible stories of faith in action that have inspired many individuals, families, schools, churches, and businesses to become involved in providing water and sanitation training to those in need. Peter Callahan has been the backbone of our organization and continues to lead by example. He is always available at a moments notice to help out on any project that needs his brilliant mind and tireless work ethic. Pete’s leadership has assisted us in developing our board governance as we grew from a staff of 7 to a team of 25, including our staff on the ground in Uganda, and increased our executive board. I would estimate that Peter Callahan has contributed over 10,000 hours of volunteer service hours to Wells Of Life during the past decade. Peter is the true example of a servant leader, who is always involved, yet never seeks a word of praise. As the founder of Wells Of Life, I have come to rely on Peter Callahan as a trusted advisor, advocate, and role model for our community.
