Succeeding in Nonprofit Management (Fall 2021)

Leading a nonprofit requires a wide variety of skills. This course serves as an introduction to a career in nonprofit management and covers the fundamentals and general best practices for running a nonprofit organization. You will learn about the common challenges nonprofit leaders face as well as the major areas of responsibility for a career in nonprofit management.

By the end of this session, you will be able to:
  • Understand the structure and purpose of nonprofit organizations
  • Know how nonprofits establish their mission, vision and strategic direction
  • Define the role of programs in nonprofit organizations
  • Explain the role of nonprofit staff, board, and volunteers
  • Learn the responsibilities of nonprofit managers in leading staff and volunteers
  • Know how nonprofit managers lead their staff and volunteers
  • Outline the key financial elements of a nonprofit organization
  • Understand the major areas of responsibility for nonprofit leaders including organizational strategy, leading staff & volunteers, managing budgets, fundraising, program development, board governance and more.

    About the Facilitator

    Tim Strauch is the President & Chief Executive Officer for OneOC. He has provided strategic leadership and direction with his business management acumen to help strengthen over 950 organizations in the community. He also serves as a coach, consultant and trainer to professional leaders as well as a presenter and facilitator in the community. Tim currently serves on the California Volunteers Commission as well as on various national committees and task forces with Points of Light. Before his current position, Tim served in various leadership roles with the YMCA including Executive Director of the Saddleback Valley YMCA, Senior Vice President of Branch Operations, Executive Vice President of Business Development and Chief Development Officer. With over 30 years as a successful nonprofit leader dedicated to strengthening communities, Tim has guided and empowered individuals to seek their greatest potential while making a positive difference in others.

    Cancellation Policy

    As a courtesy to our trainers, all cancellations must be made by phone or email at least 48 hours in advance to receive a full refund. No refunds will be given for late cancellations or no-shows for any course. For organizations with an Annual Learning Subscription, cancellations made past the 48-hour grace period will result in a $25 late cancellation fee. If you do not cancel your registration and miss the training, you will be charged a $50 no-show fee.
