Why This Volunteer is Extraordinary:

Hannah Karanick

Hannah Karanick has demonstrated initiative and compassion and has made an impact on her community. She has been giving back to her community in a variety of ways, identifying projects that needed support and lobbying for help to bridge the gap in funding and aide. She has found causes to support since her days as an elementary school student. From asking her school’s PTA and local school board to fund and build a long jump pit for students to practice for Junior Olympics when she was in sixth grade to serving meals to the homeless at her parents’ church since fifth grade, providing for others has been an innate part of who Hannah is from an early age.

As a 13-year-old, Hannah saw many of her young classmates caught in difficult situations which led to challenging school experiences. Hannah wanted to help children have access to basic necessities to build their self-confidence and eliminate teasing from others when they would arrive at school dirty, with unkempt clothing, often lacking basic hygiene products at home. She worked closely with the elementary school principal to develop a plan that was both helpful and sustainable. Having seen first-hand the need in her community, Hannah wanted to help as many families as possible. Hannah’s charity, “Hannah’s Helpful Hands,” was formed in 2018 to provide basic necessities for families in need at her alma mater elementary school.
