Compelled by the overwhelming prevalence of relationship violence in our community, Seychelle joined Human Options’ first-ever Teen Ambassador Cohort in 2017 as just a freshman. The rigorous 10 week course requiring completion of a service learning project, is designed to equip teens with the skills needed to become ambassadors of Human Options’ prevention efforts and serve as peer-to-peer mentors. Determined to end relationship violence in our community, Seychelle lends her voice to youth and adults across Orange County. She believes knowledge is power and together, we can create a community in which every individual and family experiences healthy relationships and lives free from fear. When the pandemic hit, Seychelle truly became an extraordinary hero! To protect essential workers and families in emergency shelters, Seychelle started Project Masked Heroes. She hand made hundreds of masks to protect essential workers in our community. Project Masked Heroes provided masks for all Human Options staff and families in our housing program. Living in an emergency shelter during a pandemic has been terrifying for families, but Project Masked Heroes has eased that anxiety for victims and their children. Additionally, when Seychelle learned about the crippling depression isolation caused the seniors in our Safe Options for Seniors program, she stepped in to help. She hand wrote notes of encouragement for seniors in our program. Her notes of support became a beacon of hope for our clients. We are incredibly grateful for Seychelle’s support and honored to nominate her as Human Options extraordinary hero.
