Honoree’s Name: Doug Schonfeld

Award Category: Hunger & Homelessness

Why This Volunteer is Extraordinary:

Doug Schonfeld

It is my honor to nominate Doug Schonfeld for Spirit of Volunteerism recognition.

Doug has been a long term volunteer of Bracken’s Kitchen, serving on the Board of Directors since day 1. Over the years he has done an amazing job of leveraging his relationships in the food service world to support our work. From donors of equipment, volunteer hours, vendors chef’s and more he has worked tirelessly to champion our cause.

While that alone is enough to warrant recognition Doug’s contribution does not stop there. As a former Chef he never misses and opportunity to get involved in events and helping with the preparation of food. He can regularly be found in the kitchen helping with prep and on the food truck out in the community cooking for a cause.

Doug has truly been an irreplaceable part of our organization over the years and I am honored to nominate him and bring long overdue recognition to his efforts.

Honoree’s Name: Jeff Monheim

Award Category: Hunger & Homelessness

Why This Volunteer is Extraordinary:

Jeff Monheim

Jeff is the chameleon of volunteerism. He adapts whatever and wherever the needs are. Jeff as one of our long-time volunteers started when the kitchen was small and everyone jumped in to do anything that were needed to be done. He carries that same mentality throughout the years even during the pandemic when we were not allowed to have volunteers in the kitchen. Jeff shifted his focus outwardly and gifted his time to be our distribution and logistics specialist assisting in distribution needs and food rescue operations. Jeff always serves with his big smile and his willingness to passionately submerge in any volunteer role! We love Jeff!!

Honoree’s Name: Vernon Martinazzi

Award Category: Hunger & Homelessness

Why This Volunteer is Extraordinary:

Vernon Martinazzi

When a family volunteers together, the family stays together…Vernon and Katie embodied that spirit! The Martinazzi family has been a loyal friend of Bracken’s Kitchen since the kitchen expanded into our 9,000 sq. ft. facility in Garden Grove three and half years ago. Their son Ryan also volunteered with his parent for months, until we saw his culinary potential and brought him into the team prior to his new endeavor outside of the country. But that didn’t stop Vernon along with his lovely wife Katie from volunteering at the kitchen. We are so blessed to call them friends!

Honoree’s Name: Katie Martinazzi

Award Category: Hunger & Homelessness

Why This Volunteer is Extraordinary:

Katie Martinazzi

Katie and her husband Vernon have since become our core kitchen volunteers who dedicate their time and talent every Friday to make sure some of our signature dishes such as Taco Casseroles and Chicken Quesadillas are properly prepared and made to our Bracken’s Kitchen standard! They were the few volunteers that jumped back into action at the kitchen as soon as we reengaged volunteers after not having volunteers more than a year due to Covid guidelines. We just can’t thank them enough for their love and support!
