Boys & Girls Clubs of Capistrano Valley

Honoree’s Name: Mike Silverberg

Award Category: Arts & Education

Why This Volunteer is Extraordinary:

Mike Silverberg

Mike Silverberg is an amazing ukulele instructor, who has brought his knowledge and talents to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Capistrano Valley, Rancho Santa Margarita branch. Mike is a part of the Ukes4Kids program that provides members with a ukulele, case, tuner, and lessons. Not only does he volunteer his time to teach our members how to play the ukulele, but he also uses this time to get to know each member and provide them with a fun learning environment. Many of our members would not have the opportunity to learn how to play a string instrument without the help of the Ukes4Kids program. Mike is a passionate volunteer who is patient, kind, and caring towards our members. Our members love the Ukulele program and enjoy working with Mike. He has put in countless hours working with our members. We are grateful to have Mike a part of our Club!

Honoree’s Name: Janice Ferchette-Artinger

Award Category: Arts & Education

Why This Volunteer is Extraordinary:

Janice Ferchette-Artinger

Janice Ferchette-Aringer is a person who puts each and every individual she encounters first. She takes the time to get to know people and have meaningful conversations with them. Here at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Capistrano Valley, Janice makes each member and staff she meets feel important. The members run up to Janice to say hello as soon as she walks through the double doors. She is a kindred-spirit that goes above and beyond for those who surround her including, but not limited to, her family, coworkers, volunteers, and strangers. In the five years that I have had the privilege of knowing Janice, she has helped over 85 members excel at reading, all while overseeing 30 volunteers at our Club alone. If Janice is the one helping behind the scenes, things are bound to happen for the better. Thank you Janice for always picking up your phone first ring, even while on vacation. Congratulations on this award!
