Why This Volunteer is Extraordinary:

Becky Janda

Becky Janda joined Assistance League of Newport-Mesa in 2020 when most of our meetings were “”virtual.”” That was not an obstacle! She jumped right in and offered to help wherever she was needed. When she was asked to take on a leadership role in our Assisteens Auxiliary, she didn’t hesitate. She stepped in as the Coordinator of the Assisteens Auxiliary, responsible for leading a program made up of 130 young women and men in grades 7 – 12. She meets regularly with each grade level’s adult advisor, directs and advises the Assisteens’ Governing Board, and plans quarterly meetings and functions. She developed a new recruitment package and has seen the membership continue to increase with waiting lists for some grade levels! Her enthusiasm and dedication to the Assisteens and the programs of Assistance League is inspiring. Any observer can tell that she enjoys the opportunity that she has to encourage and empower our young members in community service and leadership. Her impact has been tremendous. The Assisteens are active and each grade level participates in community service projects that make a difference in the lives of local students and families in need. We are honored that she is part of our organization and are excited to nominate her for the Spirit of Volunteerism award!
